Our Commitment to Safety

At Raising Young Farmers, the safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. We operate within a robust safeguarding framework and maintain rigorous safety standards across all our programmes and activities.

Safeguarding

All our facilitators are DBS-checked and trained in safeguarding. We follow established safeguarding procedures and have a designated safeguarding lead. Our safeguarding policy is available on request.

Risk Assessments

We carry out thorough risk assessments for all activities and areas of the farm. These are reviewed regularly and updated whenever activities or conditions change. Our facilitators are trained to assess and manage risks dynamically throughout each session.

First Aid

Trained first aiders are present at every session. We carry first aid kits at all times and have clear procedures for dealing with injuries and medical emergencies.

Facilitator Ratios

We maintain appropriate facilitator-to-child ratios across all our programmes to ensure every child receives the attention and supervision they need. Ratios are adjusted when activities carry additional risk.

Allergies and Dietary Information

We ask all families to inform us of any allergies or medical conditions when they register. We operate a no-nuts policy across all sessions as a precaution. Children bring their own packed lunches and we ensure any cooking activities take allergies into account.

Weather and Clothing

We are an outdoor programme and run in all weathers. Please ensure your child comes dressed appropriately:

  • Seasonally appropriate clothing (waterproofs in winter, sun cream in summer)
  • A change of clothes (always advised!)
  • Water bottle (essential)
  • Packed lunch (essential for longer sessions)

In extreme weather conditions (such as high winds or lightning), we will adapt activities or move to sheltered areas. Sessions are very rarely cancelled due to weather.
